Tis The Season For Stress Management

Movie picks, stress management & sliding into dms

Happy Sunday 🌞 Tis the season for staying in, watching movies, stress management, and making career moves!

Movies & Shows To Watch

  • The Crowded Room- Starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried. I know they are winning some sort of award for this show. It is only on Apple TV but it’s worth the $6 subscription. A visual representation of what it is like to be in the mind of someone with a mental health condition. Also overall look at how those with mental health conditions were treated so poorly in the late 70’s.

  • Life Itself- Starring Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Annette Bening & Olivia Cook ( Game of Thrones star). Oh and shout out to Antonio Banderas for blessing our screens in this film. WOW. I cried so hard during this film. A twist of fate teaches us just how interconnected our lives are. One moment, one event can tie you closer to seemingly strangers.

Self-care

I’m not claiming to have all the stress management answered but lately, these tools and supps have been helping me manage my stress:

  1. Magnesium every night. I personally love Moon Juice’s Magnesium-Om. Just the right amount of melatonin that won’t leave you groggy and the perfect amount of L-Theanin. This article breaks down magnesium further.

  2. Plant Medicine. I take a tincture of adaptogens every day from Wooden Spoon Herbs. I love Western medicine as much as the next person, but I also think there is so much healing in plants. For more education on plant medicine, this is a great blog!

  3. Eating less sugar and drinking less alcohol. As much as I want to eat all the sugary treats and enjoy a nice glass of wine, I know when I start feeling more anxious, it is time to lower the inflammation in my body. I become more intentional with eating real foods that are higher in protein and more nutrient-dense. As well as drinking more water and electrolytes. There are great brands ( like Moon Juice) that have high-quality electrolytes, but honestly, you can mix some room-temperature water, lemon, and salt in a glass ( maybe soon honey as well), and you are good to go!

  4. Going for walks. Move your body in any way possible. Plus walking is free.

  5. Committing to one habit. For me, my anxiety creeps up when I feel like I don’t have control. We can’t control everything in life but it helps to feel like I can control at least one thing. I committed to making my bed first thing every morning. Simple but by keeping that promise to myself, it calms my mind knowing that making my bed every morning is ONE thing in my control.

As always, this is what is working for me. I highly encourage therapy and working with medical professionals before taking any supplements.

If you are trying to pitch yourself for gigs as a freelancer or business owner, don’t be afraid of sliding into people’s DM’s. Just do it strategically.

  1. Research brands, people, and businesses you want to work with and identify one or two areas where you can help them.

  2. When choosing businesses shoot for the stars but also pick a brand that has a few years under their belt, but they aren’t so big that your DM will get lost in the flood of messages they receive. You want a brand that has the budget to pay you. But if you are just getting started, there is a lot of value in working for free. Pick a brand that you can help grow and that you can highlight in your portfolio.

  3. When crafting your pitch, show that you have done your research and you know the brand. Be detailed but keep it brief and straight to the point.

  4. Make it about them. Not about you. Craft your message that shows them how you can help them and why you care about their brand.
